After running Krazy Letter for a while, I’ve realised one thing: there needs to be money to run a website. Sure, you could go with a free host, and use free software all the way, but if you are committed about a site, you’ll have to pay for hosting. Free hosting sucks, and is not really worth the effort.
Therefore, you need to find a way to fund your site. Many people use either: Google AdSense, Yahoo Publisher Network, Chitika, or AdBrite to get ad revenue to support their site.
Google AdSense is definitely the biggest. Yahoo is still in beta, meaning you might have to wait for up to a month for an account. Many people say that the Pay per click is higher with Yahoo, but there are less clicks due to the less relevant ads. Chitika ads are slightly more intrusive, with images of a product, and interactivity. Adbrite ads allow people to buy permanent links on your website at daily, weekly, and monthly rates, in addition to CPC (Cost per click) and intermission ads (full screen ads).
These different networks all are different, and some are more effective for some sites than others. I’ll discuss each and every one in the days to come. Stay tuned!
